During the wedding, my mother-in-law came up to me and ripped the wig off my head, showing all the guests that I am bald – but then something unexpected happened.
Until recently, I had fought a hard battle with cancer. Months of treatments, hospital rooms, chemotherapy sessions that slowly drained me and took my hair… But one day I heard the most important words from the doctor: “You are healthy.”
On that long-awaited day, my boyfriend proposed to me. I burst into tears of joy and, of course, I said “yes.”
We began preparing for the wedding. For weeks I searched for the right dress, arranged every detail, and secretly hoped that my hair would grow at least a little. But no – in the mirror I saw the same bare head. I had to buy a wig, it was the only way I could feel confident.
I was very worried about what people would say about the way I looked. Many of the groom’s relatives knew I had had health problems, but not exactly what – so I hoped they wouldn’t notice that I was wearing a wig.
The big day finally arrived. Me, in a white dress, him next to me, the church full of light and whispers. Everything seemed perfect… until she appeared.
The mother-in-law. She had never liked me and I knew exactly why. She believed I would never be able to give her son children and that he should marry a “healthy” woman.
She approached without saying a word and, in the next moment, I felt her rip the wig off my head. Her loud, almost triumphant laugh echoed through the church:
— Look! She’s bald! I told you, but you didn’t believe me!
Some people laughed, others turned their backs, and others froze. I stood there, with my hands pressed to my head and tears burning my cheeks. I felt ashamed, hurt, humiliated. The groom hugged me, trying to comfort me, but I felt his hand trembling. And then something happened that no one expected – and my mother-in-law bitterly regretted her gesture Continuation in the first comment
My husband did something no one expected.
— Mom — he said firmly — you will leave the wedding right now.
My mother-in-law froze, tried to say something, but he continued:
— You don’t respect my choice or my family. I am ready to give up everything for her. And don’t forget — you also once went through a difficult situation, and Dad loved you anyway.
Silence fell in the church. The mother-in-law, pale, turned her gaze away, wiped her tears, and walked out. The guests whispered — some surprised, others approving.
And my husband took my hand and whispered to me:
— From now on everything will be fine. We are together.
